Al Jazeera Channel produced a short 20-min documentary on the Interim Relief Scheme, previously known as the cattle Compensation Scheme, implemented by The Corbett Foundation (TCF) in the buffer area of Corbett Tiger Reserve. One of the oldest tiger conservation, the project is being implemented uninterrupted since 1995. The project is co-funded by WWF-India.
The success of Interim Relief Scheme (IRS) depends on the immediate response mechanism devised by TCF. TCF team provides interim monitory relief to the cattle owners whose cattle are killed or injured by tigers and leopards within 48 hours. This prompt help provided to the affected villager prevents him from taking any step that may jeopardize the safety of the animal responsible for the attack on his cattle. The IRS has certainly played a major role in protecting the tigers in the Corbett landscape.
