TCF organized the above workshop from 26 to 29 July 2007, for naturalists and guides operating at Corbett Tiger Reserve (CTR). The main aim of this programme was to improve their knowledge and make them aware about the many national and international issues confronting wildlife conservation. The recent census citing CTR as having the highest tiger density resulted in an expected growth in the number of tourists in Corbett. To satisfy the tourists needs, it was necessary for guides needs to be knowledgeable. During the course, different subjects such as personal grooming, communication skills, basics of bird watching, flora of Corbett, Interpretation, environment issues like global warming, eco-tourism, tourism in India and Corbett and threats to tiger from China etc. were covered. Experts from different fields, namely, Shri A S Negi, Shri Dilip D Khatau, Smt. Rina D Khatau, Shri Nirmal Ghosh, Shri Rajiv Bhartari, Shri Gyan Sarin, Shri Imran Khan, Shri Manoj Sharma and Dr. Harendra Bargali were the resource persons for this course. The film produced by Mr Al Gore named “An inconvenient truth” as shown to everyone present.
The guides also requested for reading material on wildlife and our Chairman, Mr Khatau suggested that Guides should come and read books available from TCF library. Altogether, 49 nature guides attended the workshop. |
