Corbett Pledge
An interesting development that happened during the Nature Guide Refresher Course was a request by Mr Imran Khan for everyone present to sign a pledge indicating their support for wildlife and prevention of global warming. Everyone present agreed and took an oath and signed the below pledge.
“We promise to do our best to protect, conserve and preserve our flora and fauna at Corbett Tiger Reserve. To commit to the principles that man and nature must live in harmony and to observe all park’s rules.
We want to support the tigers in the wild and to secure a permanent future for them so that they will still prowl the forests of India.
We agree that we must act now to save the Earth. Each and every one of us can make changes in the way in which we live our lives.
WE WANT TO BECOME PART OF THE SOLUTION.”
Altogether 252 signatures were collected. We are in the process of collecting more signatures.

Harela Saplings Distribution
To celebrate Harela festival in a unique way, TCF distributed over 160 saplings to villagers. Harela is a local festival which is celebrated in Uttarakhand and there is a tradition of planting trees on this day. It is believed that if you plant a tree on this day it will grow well. TCF distributed about 160 saplings of Mango, Litchi and Ashoka pendulum to the villagers in Ramnagar. A stall was setup for this purpose along the main Ramnagar-Ranikhet road. The villagers who received these free saplings appreciated the programme fully. All villagers were asked to not only plant trees but also to understand the importance of trees in our eco-system and conserve them. This programme was celebrated in conjunction with World Environment Day on 5th June.

Tiger – Human Conflict research Project Update |
|
All field work for the 2nd phase of Tiger-Human Conflict Project has been completed. In the 2nd phase, two camera trap units were placed in the Buffer zone of Corbett. Tigers were photographed 22 times in our camera traps . Other animals such as elephants, leopards, bears, deer, monkeys and porcupines were also caught by the camera traps. These data will be analyzed before we present our conclusion and recommendation for the 2nd phase study.
We would like to thank Mr Gideon Egger, Founder of Forever Tigers, USA for sponsoring the above research project. He had also gifted a Mahindra Jeep to TCF for the Interim Relief programme. We are indeed indebted to him for his kind support. |
