The Rural Medical Outreach Programme (RMOP) has been successfully implemented by KERC since 1999. The programme covers 50 villages in Abdasa taluka and 40 villages in Nakhatrana taluka. Two mobile medical units headed by qualified doctors visit all the 90 villages every week . The schedule is maintained for the benefit of the villagers. Rs.10 is charged as a nominal donation from each patient for the consultations and the medicines administered. Since 2003, around 60000 persons have taken the benefit of this scheme.
Under the RMOP, KERC organises regular Eye check-up camps and Ayurvedic camps in addition to the specialised medical camps for women, children and elderly villagers. The doctors offer primary treatment and the complicated cases or patients needing advanced medication and hospitalisation are referred to the nearest government hospitals. In the months of April and May 2010, around 2500 people were treated under this scheme.
